Early Romans vs Gauls - A do or die game!

On 12th December Luis and Vitor Hugo decided to test the converting bases from WAB to Impetus.
However, only the Roman army were properly based. Most of the Gauls were on K-line bases.
We were so ansious to test, that we couldn't wait to have job lot done.

And so, the roman cavalry enter battle occupying the flanks.

The roman arches head on to a wood, to protect the flancs of the Cohortes.

The Legionaries take place

The auxiliares are on the first line

The Gauls form their warbands

The chariots take place on the flancs

The armies are ready

Luis playing for the Gauls, is smiling, probably thinking that "these roman are crazy"

Hugus Victorius (Vitor Hugo) playing for the romans is advising the Gauls that Roman only know Victory.

Watching the Show is José António, while painting his 28 mm Vikings for Impetus (thinking that one day he will defeat the Roman - keep dreaming Zé)

Auxiliares running to arrive first on wood

Romans are loosing the flanc

Furious Gauls win the fight

The other roman flanc is also in difficulty.

Roman archers will have a hard day !

The time is near.
Go ... Go for it... The clash begins.

The Roman break the center of the Gauls

An warband escape!

The romans trying to close and reform on the center.

Do you think that the Romans won the combat ?
Then we went to lunch.
When we came back Luis recover enough to achieve a draw.
Conclusion: I fight better before lunch and Luis rolls die better after lunch.
Impetus made this game very enjoyable.
